Acknowledgments
Firstly, I would like to thank Lucie Bartonek. Thank you Lucie. I would also like to
thank the authors and reviewers for their attention to detail and interest in the topic
of this book: cultural entrepreneurship. Often entrepreneurship is thought of mostly
in a financial way, but there is also a cultural dimension to it that is evident in many
different types of entrepreneurship.
I dedicate this book to my mum, Kaye Ratten, who made me interested in both
culture and entrepreneurship, which is the theme of this edited book. She loved comics
and in particular The Phantom comics. I remember at home when I was young, she
had a framed picture of The Phantom and I have fond memories of reading comics.
Even now when we have the internet and more online technology, I still buy comics.
My mum enjoyed going to the theatre and in particularly local productions of Gilbert
and Sullivan plays. My dad, David Ratten, is also a cultural entrepreneur as he worked
for many years as a professional commercial photographer. I also thank my other
family members Hamish, Stuart, David, Sakura and Tomomi. Thank you.
