Ice storm downs trees,
causes power outages
in Fulton County
By MORGAN FRISCH
Recorder News staff
Fulton County residents seemed to get the brunt of the ice storm that
impacted the area Tuesday afternoon.
Fulton County Civil Defense Director Steven Santa Maria issued a
release stating there is widespread damage throughout the county. He said
Fulton County Departments handled 48 calls over the course of eight hours
in regards to trees downs, transformer fires, or other hazardous conditions.
Santa Maria said there were countless calls handled by fire crews as they
operated in the field and came upon situations such as trees blocking road-
ways or wires down. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with
road closures and motor vehicle accidents throughout the event. County
and town highway departments assisted with tree and wire calls as well.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Jeff Smith
said conditions were much worse in Fulton County. He said the high-
er elevations appeared to have received more ice.
