BusinessProcessMonitor(BPM)isoneoftheHPBusinessServiceManagement(BSM)data
collectors.BPMproactivelymonitorsenterpriseapplicationsinrealtime,identifyingperformance
andavailabilityproblemsbeforeusersexperiencethem.Itenablesyoutomonitorsitesfromvarious
locations,emulatingtheend-userexperience,andsoassesssiteperformancefromdifferentclient
perspectives.

BPM Installation
YouinstallBPMonhostmachinesonyourlocalnetworkorontheInternet.Onceinstalled,BPM
runsindependentlyasaserviceonthehostmachine.YougenerallydeployBPMsonmultiplehost
machines,butyoucanalsouseeachBPMinstalledonahostmachineasthebasisformany
logicalBPMinstances.Forexample,youmaywanttouseeachinstanceonthehostmachineto
runtestsforadifferentdivisionofyourorganization,oruseduplicateinstancesduringthestaging
periodforBSMupgradetocommunicatewiththedifferentBSMversions.
EachinstancecanbeconnectedtoadifferentBSMplatform,ortheremaybeseveralinstances
connectedtoasingleBSMplatform(usingauniquelogicalhostnameforeach).
AfterinstallingBPMonamachine,themachineisaddedtothelistofdatacollectorsinEUM
Administration.EachadditionalBPMinstancethatyoudefineisalsoaddedtothelistofavailable
datacollectors.EachBPMcanthenbedesignatedasahostforyourbusinessprocessapplications
andbusinesstransactionflows,whicharedefinedinEUMAdministration.Fordetailsoncreating

Ingeneral,BPMsdonotrequireconfigurationandadministration.Whereconfiguration,
administration,ortroubleshootingisrequired,yougenerallyaccesstheweb-basedBPMAdmin
console(fordetails,see"HowtoAccessBPMAdmin"onpage24).Inaddition,certain
configurationchangescanbemadedirectlyintheBPMfiles,asdescribedin"BPM Configuration
Files"onpage130.
Setting Up BPMs
ForadescriptionoftheprocessrequiredtosetupanduseBPMtocollectdataontheperformance
ofspecificbusinessprocesses,see"HowtoSetupBusinessProcessMonitors"intheBSMUser
Guide.BPMsavesdetailedlogentriesforeveryexecutedtask,andforgeneralBPMoperation.
Changing the Time on the BPM Machine
BPMsynchronizestimewiththeBSMGatewayServeronceanhour(defaultTimePollInterval
setting).IfyouchangethetimeontheBPMmachine,theBPMreportsmaycontainincorrecttimes
untilBSMisnextpolledfortimesynchronization.Toavoidthis,youshouldrestartBPM/the
relevantBPMinstance(see"HowtoRestart BPM"onpage25),orchangetheTimePollInterval
settingforaninstancetoavaluesmallerthan60minutes(see"BusinessServiceManagement
RegistrationPropertiesArea"onpage53).
