* The U.S. Youth Games has been a staple of Boston's
recreationprogramforthepasttwenty-fiveyears,andhas
given thousands oflocal youths a chance to excel.
Sports teach our youngsters the ethics of hard work,
discipline and dedication, traits that extend beyond
sports and into every aspect oflife. I am certain that the
experienceofcompetingintheYouthGameshashelped
shape the lives of our youths in a most positive and
productive way.
This year's U.S. Youth Games has been generously sup-
ported by Fox 25 and the Boston Celtics, who have
joined the Boston Parks Department as sponsors of the
1991 team. Their commitment will ensure that our
delegation of 100 athletes, trainers, and chaperones can

make the trip to Atlanta, on August 5 to compete
against teams from thirteen other cities.
I want to also thank the dozens of local businesses and
sportsgroupswhohavesupportedthe 1991 teamthrough
advertising in the commemorative book, and U. Mass/
Boston for hosting the qualifying competitions on May
19, 1991.
