Truth & Consequences: The Choice Is Yours

On Monday, January 9th, Owsley County’s 9th & quite different than what they were used to doing on
12th graders experienced a taste of something a regular school day. “Truth & Consequences: The
Choice Is Yours” is a substance abuse prevention
activity designed to show students and other
youth the impact of being involved with illicit and
illegal substances. The goals and objectives of this
program are to assist communities in the fight against
substance abuse by planning and implementing
a youth enrichment program designed to show
students the consequences of getting involved with
both illicit/illegal and legal substances. The event
was sponsored by the Owsley County Extension
Service, Owsley County Drug Awareness Council,
Owsley County Schools and Owsley Co. Youth
Service Center.
Based upon the format of the 4-H Reality Store,
students role-play scenarios including: possession Senior Jennifer Spurlock experiencing the
Sophomore Meghan Cope ready to go to jail with of prescription drugs; driving under the influences; consequences of being taken in front of Circuit Judge
Owsley County Jailer Robert Cope as part of the Truth sniffing; possession of alcohol; drug paraphernalia, Tom Jones as part of the Truth or Consequences
or Consequences Program. Cont. to page 4 Program.
