INTRODUCTION Pre-design Room Data Sheets for Emily Carr University of Art +
Design include both a set of generic pre-design room data
sheets and data sheets for special purpose areas within each
functional component.
The purpose of the pre-design room data sheets is identify the
unique physical, technical and furniture/equipment requirements
for each room and not to repeat general standards of
construction, provincial and municipal building code
requirements.
PURPOSE OF PRE-DESIGN ROOM Pre-pre-design room data sheets are used to provide the
DATA SHEETS University with a record of the requirements for each space
identified in the Functional Program and to assist the
consultants with a general description of the physical and
technical characteristics of each space.

KEY TO PRE-DESIGN ROOM DATA The following example of a pre-design data sheet and
SHEET associated notes provides the reader with an explanation of
various elements that are used in each pre-design data sheet.
Note that the format for Generic Pre-design Room Data is
illustrated. The Pre-design Room Data Sheets for special
purpose space differs slightly.
“Ref:” is a unique
number that refers to

the reference number
of each component in
the Program of
Requirements; “Area”
net assignable area of
the room or space
General guidelines on
finishes and services
required for each
space. To be used in
conjunction with the
Guidelines for Design
and Emily Carr
University of Art +
Design Construction
Standards.
“Remarks” is additional
“Furniture” lists
information and
new furniture or
requirements that should
equipment
be addressed during

GENERIC ROOMS Generic Rooms include spaces that are repeated throughout a
facility. They include:
• Offices/Workstations: includes faculty and staff offices and
workstations that have been standardized at this University;
• Office support; and
• Meeting/Conference Rooms: include all shared meeting and
conference rooms that can be booked through a scheduling
protocol used by the administrative staff.
