ABOUT THIS GUIDE
At Perimeter Institute we strive to provide our visitors with all the information and tools they need
to make their visit as comfortable and productive as possible.
In this guide you will fi nd information on the amenities we offer to further aid in your enjoyment and
stay with us.
The Amenities Guide also offers links to a wide range of resources, including arts and entertainment,
and tourism information.

A current staff directory can be found on the PI-Net at this intranet link: my.pi.local/mypi.
ACCESS CARD
Your access grants you entry to the main building and certain areas within Perimeter. The front door is
unlocked during our regular offi ce hours of 8:30 am-5 pm, Monday to Friday. You can contact security
(ext. 5192, or 519.572.7947) outside offi ce hours should you require extra assistance. Please notify Visitor
Services and security should you misplace your access card.

APARTMENT AMENITIES
VISITOR HOUSING
Perimeter maintains a number of apartments for visitors’ use. Most apartments are within walking distance to Perimeter.
During your stay, we ask that you practice responsible use of the amenities and notify Facilities at [email protected] of
any apartment issues that might arise.
TELEPHONE
Each unit has a telephone for your use. If you are planning on making long distance phone calls, please see Visitor Services or
Security to purchase a $5 long distance calling card. You may also obtain calling cards at the Shopper’s Drug Mart in Waterloo Town
Square (corner of Caroline & Erb Street).

INTERNET & CABLE
Internet Access
Our visitor housing comes equipped with high-speed internet access. To hook up your computer connect the Ethernet cord to your
computer’s Ethernet jack and ensure that you have your computer confi gured to use DHCP (default behavior). There is no need for
a password. If using wireless, please enter the wireless network name and password listed below.

Each apartment is equipped with a television and Rogers Cable. For complete television listings, go to channel 13.

The folloiwing amenities are available at all Perimeter apartments:
COOKING & FOOD STAPLES
As you may be coming in late and not get a chance to grab something to eat, Perimeter has provided some granola bars, cup of
soup, fruit juice, and tea and coffee in the apartments for your use. Please feel free to use any of the spices, cooking oils, etc. in the
apartments. If it is a shared apartment and there is someone staying with you, please check with them fi rst to see if anything is their
own personal item(s).
Please note that most stores are open seven days a week, including a Valu-Mart grocery store located across from Perimeter in
Waterloo Town Square (corner of Erb and Caroline).

APARTMENT AMENITIES
SAFES
Safes are located in each of the bedroom closets (excluding Father David Bauer). Please ensure you lock up your valuables and
currency when leaving the apartments. The instructions for use are inside the safe. If you have any diffi culties, please contact help@
perimeterinstitute.ca.
To use the safes:
1. Press the red button on the back of the door near the hinge, release it and you will hear 2 beeps. The yellow light will be on at
the same time.
2. Now enter 3-8 numbers that you wish to use as a combination, and confi rm by pressing the letter “B” within 15 seconds, or
you will have to do it from the beginning.
3. Write down your new combination immediately and check whether your new combination has been programmed or not on
conditions of the safe door opening. Note: If the red light is on it means the batteries are low. Please don’t use the safe and
email facilities at: [email protected]
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Included in the apartments are cooking utensils, dishes and glassware, a coffee pot and pots and pans. There is also an iron, hair
dryer, and alarm clock. In the bathrooms, we have provided a few essentials in case you have forgotten to pack something, including
toothpaste, shampoo, etc.
MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
For any ‘emergency repairs’, please contact your building superintendent (see contact info in your apartment details below). An
example of an emergency repair is: no heat or electricity, toilet overfl owing, etc. For all other issues please contact facilities at: help@
perimeterinstitute.ca which will be responded to during regular offi ce hours (Mon. - Fri. 8:30 am-5 pm).
Please note: For apartments with no built in air-conditioning (A/C) units, portable A/C units are installed in the apartments by facilities
during the summer months. Alternately, apartments are equipped with portable fans all year long.
While all units have access to laundry facilities, alternate laundry services are available nearby at Campus Coin Laundry and Dry
Cleaning (150 University Ave. W., Waterloo, 519-886-1759). You can bring in your laundry and staff will wash and fold it for a fee.

Allowing Visitors into the Building
This is a self-contained condo with no buzzer code required. Visitors simply ring the doorbell.
Garbage and Recycling
Garbage and recycling bins are located in the garage and are to be placed out in the front of the building for scheduled pick up.
Heating
The digital thermostat located in the main entrance and is fully adjustable for both the heating and air-conditioning.
Laundry Facilities
Laundry facilities are located in your apartment.
Parking
This apartment has a private driveway and garage for your use.

Allowing Visitors into the Building
Phone will ring to notify you that someone is in the lobby. Dial “9” to allow visitors into building. Your buzzer number is 103.
Garbage and Recycling
Garbage chutes are located on each fl oor in the storage room (located near the laundry room on the right side of the hallway when
you exit your unit). Recycling bins are located in the parking garage to the right of the building when you exit. If there are no blue
recycling bags in the apartment, please see the Apartment Offi ce on the main fl oor.
Heating
The unit’s heating system is individually controlled. If you are having a problem with the heating, please contact the building
superintendent. A small thermostat box is located on the wall typically by the front door or on the wall when you fi rst enter the living
room. Turn the dial up for more heat or down for less heat.
Laundry Facilities
Coin-operated machines are located on the same fl oor as the unit, to the right of the hallway after you exit the apartment.
Parking
Parking is available at the back of the building. Please note that you will require a parking pass. Please contact Visitor Services at
Perimeter to obtain a parking pass if one is not already in your package.

Garbage and Recycling
There are garbage chutes to the right of the elevator. Recycling is on the fi rst fl oor in the room marked ‘Moving Room’.
Note: Make sure you bring your apartment keys with you as you will need them to re-enter.
Heating
The units’ heating systems are individually controlled. If you are having a problem with the heating, please contact the building
superintendent. A small thermostat box is located on the wall typically by the front door or on the wall when you fi rst enter the living
room. Turn the dial up for more heat or down for less heat.
Laundry Facilities
Laundry is located in the basement and a ‘SmartCity’ laundry card is required. If there is no card in the apartment please see Visitor
Services at Perimeter to obtain one.
Parking
Parking is available to the right of 55 Caroline Street in spots 11-15. If all spots are taken you may park in the visitor parking.
If you are parking in visitor parking overnight, please contact Visitor Services during offi ce hours (8 am-5 pm) to notify them of the
vehicle, license plate and parking stall you are using, otherwise your car will be towed away. If late in the evening please call fi rst
thing in the morning.

Parking is available at the back of Casa Mia on Father David Bauer Drive. There are two garages for use.

Parking spaces have been designated for your use. If someone is parked there, park in the visitor parking and inform the Apartment Offi ce.
The parking spaces are located along the fence. If facing the back of the apartment building, these spaces are to the extreme right.

There are garbage and recycling bins located at the back of the building (towards the left if facing the building).
Heating
Go to the hall closet. There is a box with the name Ecologic on it. Turn the white knob from 0-5 (5 being the hottest). The rooms are
also heated with in-fl oor heating. Individual rooms can be adjusted (the knobs are labeled). Turn the knobs to the right to turn off,
and vertically to turn on. Contact the superintendent if you require help.

Parking
You may park on the street beside or behind the building.
