Notice is hereby given that a Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Alvin Independent School
District will be held on March 4, 2014, beginning at 6:30 PM at 301 East House Street, Alvin, Texas. The
Closed Session will begin immediately after the opening of the meeting followed by the Open Regular Meeting
beginning at 7:00 p.m.

If, during the course of the meeting covered by this Notice, the Board of Trustees should determine that a
closed or executive meeting or session of the Board of Trustees is required, then such closed or executive meeting or
session as authorized by the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Section 551.001 et seq., will be
held by the School Board at the date, hour, and place given in this Notice or as soon after the commencement of the
meeting or session concerning any and all purposes permitted by the Act, including, but not limited to the following
sections and purposes:

551.072 Discussing purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property.

(a) In the open meeting covered by the Notice upon the reconvening of the public meeting; or
(b) at a subsequent public meeting of the School Board upon notice thereof; as the School Board shall
determine.

This evening we have the National Art Honor Society
students from Alvin High School and Manvel High School
serving as our greeters. The National Art Honor Society
program from Alvin High School is under the direction of
Ms. Nina Hays and the National Art Honor Society program
from Manvel High School is under the direction of Ms. Vicky
Satterwhite.

Rationale A commendation is recommended for the following
Students and Faculty who have distinguished themselves
because of their outstanding accomplishments:

Congratulations to the winners of the Sportsmanship award,
presented to Alvin High School for their actions during the
2013 high school football season. This award was presented
at the 9th Annual Comerica Bank Sportsmanship Luncheon,
presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, on
Wednesday, January 29th.
The finalists were chosen based on six criteria: 1) Actions of the
team, 2) actions of the coaches, 3) Actions of the support groups
at games, such as parents, band, cheerleaders, and drill team,
4) Respect for the American Flag, 5) A score based on the
number of personal fouls incurred during the game, 6) a score
based on the number of unsportsmanlike conduct fouls. Voting
was done by the Texas Association of Sports Officials, Houston
football chapter, who are the refs covering the high school
games in Greater Houston.

Alvin ISD Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2014 Art
Program District Winners. This year Alvin ISD Students
displayed their incredible talent during the Rodeo Art
Competition. Artwork was taken by the judging committee to
move on to the next round at the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo. Students in the sculpture division have also won the
opportunity to apply for Glassell School and Western Art
Academy scholarships. The program provides students, Pre-K
through 12th grade, the opportunity to compete in district
shows, earn scholarships, travel to summer workshops and
display artwork in the Hayloft Gallery for Show visitors to see.

AHS Photography students win SW Regional Scholastic
Awards
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the longest-running
creative awards program for teens in the United States. Past
winners include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote,
Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen
King, John Updike and many more. Awards are given based on

originality, technical skill, and personal voice or vision.
This evening we are excited to recognize 3 students for their
accomplishments.
Carolina Heiman won 3 Gold Keys and an Honorable Mention
Ashley Lawhorn won 3 Gold Keys
Chandler Nixon won 1 Silver Key

All three are students of Claire Chauvin, AHS photography and
photojournalism teacher.

Charles Krampota – Alvin Fire Department Firefighter of the
Year Award. Nominated by his peers. Presented February 8th at
the 54th Annual Fire Department Awards Banquet.

Education Foundation - Congratulations to Kerri Neubauer
and Sheila Olson for winning the state wide Celebrate Texas
Public Schools Education Foundation Video contest. This is an
honor for Alvin ISD and the Education Foundation.

from the Alvin Yellowjacket Booster Club in the Amount of
$11,545.16 to purchase a Bunker Rake for the AHS Baseball
program.

York Elementary
Shadow Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) has submitted a donation
offer to fund labor and materials that would improve an area
of the play fields at York Elementary. Hybrid Bermuda grass
would be installed on the designated play areas. The SCSC
would request priority reservation status for a five year period
following acceptance and installation of the donation.

RE: Requested Donation Approval from Shadow Creek Soccer Club

Shadow Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) has submitted a request to donate
goods and services to Alvin ISD for improving the play fields at York
Elementary. Alvin ISD and SCSC have a six-year history of working together
where area youth have benefited from after school use of fields at Ryan Junior
High for both youth soccer club practice and games. The Soccer Club is a
registered non-profit organization.
SCSC is proposing to improve the play fields at York Elementary at their
expense in exchange for priority reservation of the fields for after school and
weekend use.
The attached proposal identifies many of the improvements including
installing new hybrid Bermuda turf, irrigation system, licensed herbicide and
fertilization, and field maintenance. This is a significant commitment by the
Soccer Club and one consistent with the practices and mission of Alvin ISD.
We recommend that the Board of Trustees consider and approve
Shadow Creek Soccer Clubs proposal and allow improvements to begin during
the upcoming spring break.
