Abstract Anewrhizotroginespecies,MI,,1d10a 1rsllra is described from both
IshigakijimaandIriomotejimaIslandsoftheRyukyus,SouthwestJapan.
In1988, I recordedMiridibatrichophor・a(FAIRMAIRE,1891) fromIriomotejima
IslandanddescribeditsspecificcharactersinJapanese.Later,Ihadanopportunityto
examinethreespecimensof thisspecies fromFokien[=Fujian] inChina,compared
thespecimensfromtheRyukyuswiththosefromChina,andcommentedthattheindi-
vidualsfromtheRyukyusbelongtoMiridibatrichophora(FAIRMAIRE,1891)thougha
fewslight differences were recognized between thespecimens from the two areas
(ITCH,1990).Atpresent, Ihaveobtained further individualsnotonly fromIriomote-
jimabutalsofromIshigakijimaIslandthroughthecourtesyofMr.RyujiFuKAISHI.As
theresultofmyadditionalscrutiny,IhavereachedtheconclusionthattheRyukyuan
individualsmayberecognizedasanewspeciesthoughthedifferencesareratherslight
between themandtheindividuals ofMiridiba trichophola fromChina. Thus, I am
gojng to describe herein the new species from the Ryukyus under the name of
MiridibahirsutaT.ITCH,sp nov.

Description. Length:16.3-20.5mm.
Male Head,mouthparts,pronotum,scutellum,pro-tometasterna,metaCOxae,
tjbjaeandtarsj reddjshbrowntodarkbrown,antennae,maxilla「yPalPi, elyt「a,ab-
domenandfemorapaler, lightbrowntochestnutbrownthoughtheabdomenand
femoraaresometjmesdarkblackishbrown.Wholebodybluntlyshininganddensely
coveredwithshortorlong,semirecumbentyellowishhai「S.

middleofanteriormarginoralmoststraightatanteriormargin,roundedateachantero-
lateralcorneranddistinctlyreflexedalonganteriormargin,with fronto-clypea1suture
fineandarcuateanteriorly;canthusnarrowwithsomelongthickhairs; fronsflattened,
reticulatelypunctatewithshorterectyellowishhairs;vertexwithcarinagentlycurved
posteriad;occiputcoarselyandirregularlypunctatetotheleve1ofposteriormarginof
eye,withthepuncturesbearingshort,procumbenthairs;antennae9-segmentedwith
3-segmentedclub,whichislongerthantheantennalshaft,5thsegmenttriangular,6th
veryslightlylamellate; labrumdeeplyexcavatedonventralsideasapairof tusks;
mentumtransverseandquadrate, widelyconcave incentral area, emarginateat the
middleofanteriormargin,gentlyproducedalonglateralmargins,withapairoflongi-
tudinal rowsofshort,thick,bentandrecumbenthairs,whicharedirectedtowardthe
medianline.
Pronotumtransverseandconvex,ratiooflengthtowidth0.65-0.68(mean0.67,
n=3);discdenselyhairedanddenselypunctatewithsmall,inconspicuousimpression
ineach Iatero-medianportion; puncturesdenseexcept incentralarea,composedof
twodifferentsizedones; anteriormargingentlyemarginate, thickly rimmed; lateral
margingentlycurvedbehindthemiddleinlateralview,straightandnotserrateinante-
riorhalf,straightandfinelyserrateinposteriorhalf;posteriormargingentlyproduced
posteriad,slightly rimmedonlynear posterior angle; anterior anglesubrectangular,
posterioronebluntandrounded.Scutellumwidelytriangular,abouttwiceaswideas
long,andpunctateinvariousway:1)hardlypunctate;2) formingapairofpatchesof

Elytrasmooth, densely and feebly rugosely punctate,moreor less with short
semirecumbenthairs,notcostateexcept forobscurelyraisedsuturalcosta; rimrecog-
nizabletothelevelof5thabdominalsterniteindorsalview;marginalmembranerec-
ognizabletosuturalangle.Pygidiumtriangular,gentlyconvex,denselyhaire coarsely
anddenselypunctate.
Prosternum withabluntly triangular post-coxal process. Metasternumdensely
coveredwithlongyellowishhairs,raisedanddistinctlycarinatemediallybehindmeso-
coxae, thence finely furrowed toposterior endofmetasternite. Abdomensparsely
hairedincentralarea,denselyhairedinalmostallpartsof2ndsternite,lateralareasof
3rdto4thandwholeareasof5thand6th.
Legsrobust;metacoxaquadrate,rimmed,denselywithlongrecumbenthairsand
rectangularatpostero-1atera1corners; femurstout,coarselypunctate,mesofemur al-
most straight along upper margin, metafemur swollen, ratio of length to width
0.39-0.40(mean0.39,n=3);protibiastout,sharplytridentate,with3rd(=basal)den-
ticledistinct andatbasal 048-0.54(mean0.51, n=3); apicalspurofprotibiaslender
andsharp,occurring fromsocketagainstpositionofemarginationbetween2ndand
3rddenticles,notreachinghalfthe1sttarsalsegment;mesotibiawithat least twore-
markablespinesondorsalsurface,alsowithdistinctobliqueridgepast themiddle;
metatibiaratherstrongly widenedapicad,withthesameridgeasthatonmesofemur
andat least threespines ondorsal surface, andwithapical two spurs ofdifferent
length, thelongeroneofwhichislonger than1stmetatarsalsegment; tarsislender,
wjtheachof1stto4thsegmentsofpro-andmesotarsibearingatuftofshortyellowish
hairsapico-ventra11y,1stmetatarsalsegmentdistinctlyshorterthanthe2nd;clawseach
gentlybentapicad,withverticaldenticlemedially.
Malegenitaliawithparameresbranche lowerbranchesthin,shorterthanupper
ones,bentoutwardsapicadindorsalview,upperbranchesgraduallybenttowardapex
andbluntlypointedapicadinlateralview.
Female. Antennal clubshorter thanantennal shaft;protibiastout,metafemur
distinctlystout,longeroneofmetatibia1spursstoutandwidestatapical l/3,clawof

伊藤 武:琉球列島のクリイロコガネのl新種. - 琉球列島のクリイロコガネの1新種
MiridibahirsutaT.ITCH(ヤェヤマクリイロコガネ) を, 石垣島と西表島より記載した.筆者は,
1988年と1990年に,本種を中国に産する,Mirldibatrichopho1-a(FARIMARIE,1891)に相当するも
のと報告したが, その後, 数多くの標本を検することができ, 再検討した結果, 中国のものと
は軽微な差異によって新種として取り扱えると判断し,記載した.本種は,石垣島ではシマト
ネリコF'-axinusg''lfftthilC.B.CLARKE,1882の葉裏にて交尾するものが観察されており, 成虫は2
月から4月にかけて発生活動する.
