POLICY
1) Classesrunfrom8:30am-3:30pm,MondaythroughFriday. Besuretoallotyourself
enoughtime,astrafficonmajorroutesintheareacanbecongested. Intheeventyouare
late,andtobeassuredcredit,youmustcheckinwiththeProgramCoordinator before
enteringtheclassroom.
2) Uniformsmustbewornallweek, includingFriday. Nojumpsuits,etc.
3) ParkingistotherearofthebuildinginanyplaceotherthanFACULTYpostedsigns.
4) PleaseinformtheProgramCoordinatorifyouhavecourtduringtheweek.
5) Amicrowaveandrefrigeratorareprovidedforyouruseshouldyoudecidetobrownbag
yourlunch.
6) Pleasedonottalkordisturbtherecruitswheninsession.
7) Thereisnofoodordrinkallowedintheclassroom.
8) Thereisnosmokinginthebuilding;thisincludesvestibules. Exittoyourrightoutsidethe
classroomandthroughthedoubledoorstotheoutsidestairwell, (ourcustodianshaveplaced
receptaclesforyourcigarettedisposal)
9) ServiceweaponsarerequiredonFridayforRangeQualificationonly.
10) Recommendedammunitionthisyearis200rounds;requiredis 150rounds.
11) Toreceiveanoticeofcompletion,youmustattendallclassesandscoreaminimumof70%
oneachtest. Examprocedure; tentestquestionsineachsubjectareaattheendofeach
blockofinstruction. Twenty-fivetestquestionsinCPR&FirstResponder.
12) Toqualifyontherangeyoumustscoreaminimumof80%. Eyeandearprotectionis
required.
13) Messageswillbehelduntilabreak. Classwillonlybeinterruptedintheeventofan
emergency.
14) CANCELLATIONOFCLASSESDUETOINCLEMENTWEATHER: Whenitbecomes
necessarytocancelbecauseofinclementweather,ourpolicyisthatofMassasoit
CommunityCollege. WhenMCCisclosed,theAcademywillalsobeclosed. The
followingradiostationsshouldbetunedin:WBET-AMBrockton1460,WCAV-FM97.7,
WPLM-FMPlymouth99.1,WNBH-AMNewBedford 1340,WBZ-AMBoston1030.

What a Cop?
is
Copsarehuman (believeitornot justliketherestofus). Theycomeinbothsexesbutmostlymale.
Theyalsocomeinvarioussizes. Thissometimesdependsonwhetheryouarelookingforoneortryingtohide
something. However, theyaremostlybig.
Copsarefoundeverywhere-onland,onthesea,intheair,onhorses,incars,sometimesinyourhair.
Inspiteofthefactthat "youcan'tfindonewhenyouwantone", theyareusuallytherewhenitcountsmost.
Thebestwaytogetoneistopickupthephone.
Copsdeliverlectures, babies, andbadnews. TheyarerequiredtohavethewisdomofSolomon, the
dispositionofalambandthemusclesofsteelandareoftenaccusedofhavingahearttomatch. He'stheone
whoringsthedoorbell, swallowshardandannouncesthepassingofalovedone;thenspendstherestofthe
daywonderingwhyheevertooksucha "crummy"job.
OnTV,acopisanoafwhocouldn'tfindabullfiddleinatelephonebooth. Inreallifehe'sexpected
tofindalittleblondboy "aboutsohigh"inacrowdofahalfmillionpeople. Infiction, hegetshelpfrom
privateeyes, reportersand "who-dun-itfans." Inreallife, mostlyallhegetsfromthepublicis "Ididn'tsee
nuttin.
Whenheservesasummons, he'samonster. Ifheletsyougo, he'sadoll. Tolittlekids, he'seither
afriendorabogeyman,dependingonhowtheparentsfeelaboutit. Heworks "aroundtheclock",splitshifts,
Sundaysandholiday,anditalwayskillshimwhenajokersays, "Hey,tomorrowisElectionDay. I'moff,let's
gofishing" (that'sthedayheworks20hours).
Acopislikethelittlegirl, whowhenshewasgood, wasvery, verygood, butwhenshewasbad, was
horrid. Whenacopisgood"he'sgettingpaidforit." whenhemakesamistake, "he'sagrafter,andthatgoes
\fortherestofthemtoo." Whenheshootsastick-upmanhe'sahero, exceptwhenthestick-upmanis "only
akid, anybodycouldaseenthat.
Lotsofthemhavehomes,someofthemcoveredwithivy,butmostofthemcoveredwithmortgages. If
hedrivesabigcar, he'sachiseler;alittlecar, "who'shekidding?" Hiscreditisgood, thisisveryhelpful
becausehissalaryisn't. Copsraiselotsofkids, mostofthembelongtootherpeople.
Acopseesmoremisery, bloodshed,trouble,andsunrisesthantheaverageperson. Likethepostman,
copsmustalsobeoutinallkindsofweather. Hisuniformchangeswiththeclimate, buthisoutlookonlife
remainsaboutthesame: mostlyablank, buthopingforabetterworld.
Copslikedaysoff, vacations, andcoffee. Theydon'tlikeautohorns,familyfights, andanonymous
letterwriters. They have unions, butthey can'tstrike. They mustbe impartial, courteous, andalways
remembertheslogan "AtYourService." Thisissometimeshard, especiallywhenacharacterremindshim,
"I'mataxpayer, Ipayyoursalary.
Copsgetmedalsforsavinglives,stoppingrunawayhorses,andshootingitoutwithbandits(onceina
whilehiswidowgetsamedal). Butsometimes, themostrewardingmomentcomeswhen, aftersomesmall
kindnesstoanolderperson,hefeelsthewarmhandclasp,looksintogratefuleyesandhears, "Thankyouand
Godblessyou, son.
