The Woodburn School District Board of Directors met for regular session at the Woodburn School District
Office, Woodburn- Oregon. The following individuals were present:

governing body to carry on labor negotiations.

Current ESOL Students breakdown from 2016:

Spanish and/or Russian Language Courses are core classes that students receive credit for.
A better model is to teach core classes to students in their language. Helping the student transition.
Oregon statue has a time limit- students have option to transfer credits if they have been in in the US fewer than
5 years before their Junior year they can receive credits from another country.
Most of those classes and resources are concentrated in AIS. We have fewer and fewer students in middle
school and high school in ESOL.
Strong bilingual, staff, administration and students at AIS.
Cross over classes- available campus wide
Perception issue- regardless of what school what we are talking about.
This report was to show the Board what we are currently doing.
What are we going to do?
This is a complex situation to fix.
Student Government/ASB does not currently exist in the high school campus.

When the high school transitioned from comprehensive high school to a small school model, each school
developed their own approach to a student government model.
The first couple years of small schools we had a leadership coordinator campus wide. They also coordinated the
student government model.
2010 revised the student constitution- did not go past draft. Students could not re-align the student constitution
to the small high school model.
Courses listed that currently offer topics- immigration, equity, racism, oppression, etc.
We do not currently offer ethnic study courses.
What do we currently provide as a district in terms of cultural sensitivity and equity training for staff- including
admin?
Teachers and Admin are required to take a course.
Gustavo- how do we reorganize what we currently offer?

• Lead Testing
Outreach and community regarding lead testing has been completed.
Reports are available on the website.
Water we will be providing to our staff and students is safe.
Kudos to City of Woodburn for having good source water.
Fixtures- if we don’t want people to drink from some- we will label them.

motion. The motion passed.

Dave Vancil- 9 years on the Board
Dave is committed and dedicated community member in Woodburn. Gives of himself
The District will miss him. Dave is interested in serving on our Bond Committee.
Superintendent Ransom- personal connection. Dave offered Leadership and Mentoring.

Bob Clabaugh – Came from Ednetics- for state and local gov. 12 years at Northwest
Regional ESD.
