a local library banned her for using a jam tart as a bookmark.
AftergraduatinginEnglishfromSomervilleCollege,Oxford,she
joinedafirmofantiquarianbooksellersspecializingintraveland
exploration.Sheleftbooksellingtopursueawritingcareerandin
1990herfirstbook, WaywardWomen^waspublished. Sheisnow
