A Message from the Chair of the Fair
Welcome to the 176th Stratford and District Agricultural Society Fall Fair. We
have gone from one major milestone and celebration of our 175th anniversary
of the Fall Fair last year to the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday this year.
We are proud to be part of Canada’s 150th year as a nation from September
21st to 24th with the theme: Celebrating Canada 150.
It is my privilege to serve as the Chair of the Stratford Fall Fair and to offer you
a written snap shot of what I believe is the highlight of our year for the
Stratford and District Agricultural Society. I wish to begin by acknowledging all
the hard work and dedication by the Board of Directors and Members-at-Large
leading up to, the hosting of and the clean-up and tear down following the Fall
Fair. The hours of planning and labour are immense, but the results are
amazing.
Our major annual events never get old or feel repetitive. Nothing embodies the
original spirit and purpose of the Fall Fair more than the ‘Farm to You’
presentation in the Fieldhouse. This interactive and educational event
continues to be a major attraction for children of all ages (from one to one
hundred). Help milk a cow, pet a piglet, catch a bunny, feed a goat, sheer a
sheep or hold a baby chick.
Perhaps the highlights for me are the exhibits, crafts and school children’s work
that are on display in the Community Hall. A huge thank you to the ‘Ag
Society’s Ladies Division’ for all their work in organizing and setting up such an
outstanding showcase of the entries from our local and school communities.
We are excited about the return of a horse show at this year’s Fall Fair. A Fall
Fair just seems more complete with horses. This event will take place in the
former ring at the former fairground site.
Once again we welcome our young 4H competitors who will show their
beautiful dairy and beef cattle. I certainly welcome our visitors to a restful sit

and to be impressed by the talents of our young farmers as they work with
their animal.
The midway, antique cars and tractor show, the Pet show, Seniors’ euchre and
baseball, the baby show, the Family BBQ and so many other activities provides
something for everybody. So come every day and enjoy all there is to see and
do! And the admission cost continues to be right – FREE.
Please take advantage of the abundance of parking at the former fairgrounds.
It is a very short walk to the midway from this parking area.
It all kicks off on Thursday night with the official opening and the very exciting
Ambassador Competition.
We have so much to be proud of and thankful for in this beautiful Nation of
Canada. Come Celebrate Canada 150 with us at the Stratford Fall Fair.

Welcome from Homecraft Convenor
The Homecraft Division of the Stratford and District Agricultural Fall Fair is
pleased to welcome you to the 176th annual fall fair – one of the longest
running fairs in Ontario. Our theme this year is “ Celebrating Canada 150” a
good motto at the local and national level. We look forward to a wide variety
of entries. Our well – lit community hall is a great advantage for our displays
and exhibits. We welcome growth in numbers of participants, exhibits and
visitors. Continuous updating and changing of categories by our various
committees keep our classes interesting and current. Our exhibits change a
blank canvas to a rich mosaic of colour and design with the added scents of
baking and flowers wafting through the air. An uplifting area to pause and
reflect, so come and visit! Homecraft appreciates the participation of all the
people who work so hard for their local fair, the list is long and the activities
vary. Thanks to the board of directors, the staff, members, volunteers and the
City of Stratford for use of the facility. Thanks to all the sponsors who give our
classes that extra shine. Thanks to all who
participate – your community spirit is alive and well-
very much appreciated. We look

Stratford Fall Fair Ambassador
STRATFORD WANTS YOU!!!

The Stratford & District Agricultural Society would be honoured to have you
represent them as the 2017-2018 Stratford Fall Fair Ambassador. This
competition is open to young males and females between the ages of 17 - 23
who reside in Stratford and surrounding area. This is an excellent opportunity
for young adults to develop communication skills, presentation & interview
experience as well as developing a large social network. This outstanding
opportunity allows you to become involved in your community and help
reconnect the urban and rural communities together, through a variety of
community events.
Each contestant will present themselves to a panel of judges, interact over
dinner, as well as prepare and deliver a three minute speech on one of the
following topics:
1. 176th Stratford Fall Fair
2. This year’s Fall Fair theme “Celebrating Canada 150”
3. Canadian Agriculture – what does it mean to you
4. Rural Living in an Urban World
5. Community Spirit
The Ambassador will have a chance to travel to Toronto for two different
events; including the Agricultural Societies Convention held in February of
2018, where he or she will meet and interact with other Fall Fair Ambassadors
and Agricultural Societies. The second trip will be to participate in the ‘CNE
Ambassador of the Fairs’ competition at the Canadian National Exhibition in
August of 2018.
There are numerous other events throughout the year that the Stratford Fall
Fair Ambassador will have an opportunity to participate in while representing
Stratford and the Stratford & District Agricultural Society. We look forward to
having YOU represent us in Toronto and throughout your year as the 2017-
2018 Stratford Fall Fair Ambassador!

Mini Prince & Mini Princess Competition
The Stratford & District Agricultural Society is excited to once again be offering this
wonderful opportunity to children to become our next Mini Prince or Mini Princess of
the Stratford Fall Fair! This competition is open to young males and females between
the ages of 6 – 9 years of age who reside in Stratford and surrounding area. This is an
excellent opportunity for children to gain confidence and showcase their performance
skills.
Each contestant will present themselves on stage and be asked to complete the
following to the best of their ability:
1. Show & Tell – bring something from home that you can share a little story about
2. Perform a talent or special skill that you have (ie. Sing, dance, read a poem, recite a
nursery rhyme)
3. Answer a couple of questions (ie. What is your favorite part of the fair? What is your
favorite color? Etc.)
The Mini Prince and Mini Princess will have the opportunity to participate in both
parades held in Stratford. The first parade is the Santa Claus parade held the last Sunday
in November and the Canada Day parade held July 1st. Other opportunities to help out
the Stratford & District Agricultural Society at their events may also come up within the
year, ie. Soup’s on and Chili Day. Participation is based upon availability of both mini
prince and mini princess and child friendly event is being held.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star…. Join us as we celebrate all the sweet little
bundles of joy from Stratford and surrounding area ages 0-18 months. This is a
great opportunity to become part of the community, network with other moms
and have a whole lot of fun all at the same time! Pre- Register by Friday

Homecraft Division Rules and Regulations
PL E ASE R EAD C AR EFU LLY
EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE:
1. Exhibitors must register at Fair Office on or before Wednesday.
September 20, 2017 by 1:00 P.M.to pick up your membership card
($10.00) and your exhibitors tags. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m., Monday to Friday. Entries must be placed on September 20th
2017 between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the Community Hall of the
Stratford Rotary Complex.
Exhibits must remain until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24th 2017.
Rules and Regulations
Entry forms and tickets are to be filled out by the exhibitor and all items must
be listed on the entry form.

2. The Stratford and District Agricultural Society is not responsible for
unreadable entry tickets. If incorrect, they will be disqualified. . Entry
forms must be brought in accompanying the articles of entry. All entry
tags must be originals, picked up from the Stratford & District
Agricultural Society Office.

3. All articles are to be the property of the members of the Society, and
where there is no competition, the judges report the article unworthy
of a prize, directors shall have the power to withhold the same.
Judges are particularly requested not to award prizes where they
consider the articles unworthy. It is understood that no two or more
members are to join exhibiting articles together. No person can judge
his or her own property.

4. An exhibitor is only entitled to one entry in sections for Grain,
Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers, Plants, Culinary Arts, Needlecraft,
Woodworking, Photography, Hobbies and Crafts, Antiques and
Collectibles, Christmas in September.

5. While the Officers and Directors of this Society will use every available
means to prevent accidents in and about the grounds, it must be
strictly understood that all persons going into or about the grounds
must personally assume all risk of accidents or injury from any case
whatsoever.

6. Where prizes awarded equals or exceed $10.00, the fee for
membership ($10.00) for the 2018 Fair will be deducted from the prize
money where applicable.
