Pakistan Gender Coalition

Background

The Pakistan Gender Coalition (PGC) is a network of Pakistani civil society organizations,
academic institutions, research institutions and media organizations that have a commitment
to working towards gender equality and equity; and that are sub-grantees of the Gender
Equity Program (GEP) from 2010 to 2017.

The Pakistan Gender Coalition is the custodian of the mission and objectives of GEP,
working together and bringing to bear the experience and resources of the member
organizations to strive towards a Pakistani society that is just, democratic, and gender
responsive – a society that itself calls for and guarantees equal rights for women and
women.

The Coalition is also a way to sustain the government-NGO linkages that have been built by
GEP and for strengthening the interface between academia, research, media and practice to
give more prominence to the gender agenda and women's rights that has, hitherto, been
largely the life-work of a number of NGOs.

Aurat Foundation's values of caring and sharing and principles of participatory democracy
and development, transparency and accountability nurtured over 25 years of activism and
institutional development at all levels (from grassroots to policy and legislation), will be the
bedrock of the Coalition. PGC members share best practices, novel actions, lessons learnt,
difficulties and solutions, strengthening the synergy that is a hallmark of GEP.
