Antoine Bernard a déjà raconté le premier siècle des Viateurs au Canada dans un ouvrage en deux tomes.</p><p>Léo-Paul Hébert présente ici le troisième demi-siècle 1947-1997. Cette période couvre la Révolution tranquille, la réforme du système scolaire du Québec, le concile Vatican II et l'<i>aggiornamento</i> qui s'ensuivit.</p><p>Dans les années 1961-1962, les effectifs des Viateurs du Canada ont atteint plus de 1100 religieux. Les réalisations viatoriennes dans l'éducation ont été considérables et significatives.</p><i>À partir des années 1970, les transformations profondes de la société québécoise ont amené les Viateurs à s'adapter aux conditions nouvelles. La pastorale a pris en grande partie le relais de l'éducation.</i>
