in questi luoghi. I-linteresse per le ricerche di storia naturale - di natura scienti-
fica ecl economico-commerciale - riguarda tuttavia anche le regioni di monta-
gna, e in particolare la flora, la fauna e i rninerali ivi presenti. Le potenze euro-
pee si trovarono in competizione per il monopolio commercialc di alcuni pro-
dotti coloniali e ambivano, a livello scientifico, ad assicurarsi un vantaggio nella

tenute utili da un punto di vista medico, artigianale e commerciale, Parailela-
mente a queste dinarniche, si osserva anche 1o sviluppo e il consolidamento di

Die meisten der in dieser Ausgabe vorgestellten Beitrâge konzentrieren
sich auf eine historische Periode (lS./19. Jahrhundert), in welcher sich die Na-
turgeschichte in Europa, aber auch in Arnerika und Asien rasant entwickelte.
Dieses Phânomen ist mit dem Prozess der Handelsglobalisierung verbunden,
welcher wiederum mit der Zunahme der Entdeckungsreisen und der Intensi'
vierung der kolonialen Prâsenz an diesen Orten zusammenhângt. Das Inter-
esse an naturkundlicher Forschung (sowohl wissenschaftlich als auch handels-
wirtschaftlich) betrifft aber auch Bergregionen, insbesondere ihre Flora, Fauna
und Mineralien. Die europâischen Mâchte konkurrierten um das Hanclelsmo-
nopol fûr bestimmte Kolonialprodukte und wollten sich einen wissenschaft-
lichen Vorteil bei der Gewinnung von Exenplaren,Beobachtungen und natur-
kundlichen Informationen aller Art sichern, die sie medizinisch, handwerklich
und kommerziell fùr nùtzlich erachteten. Parallel zu dieser Dynamik ist auch
die Entwicklung uncl Konsolidierung verschiedener naturkundlich interessier-
ter Institutionen zu beobachten: Man denke an Akademien, wissenschaftliche
Gesellschaften und patriotisch-ôkonomische Gesellschaften beziehungsweise
botanische Gârten und naturkundliche Museen. Dieses Dossier beleuchtet
nicht nur die Rolle der Naturforschung bei der Erkundung der Berge, sondern
bietet auch eine Reihe von Ûb"rlegungen zur Rolle der verschiedenen Institu-
tionen und Akteure bei der Erarbeitung und der Verbreitung von \ùTissen iïber
die Nutzung von Bergressourcen. Auf diese \X/eise hoffen wir, einen Beitrag zur

Entwicklung einer Sozialgeschichte des 'ùTissens ùber Berge und ihre Ressour-

zu entwickeln, iu welchem die Asymmetrien von \Tissen und Macht herausge-
stellt werden, welche die Neuzeit geprâgt haben und auch heute noch dieZeit-
genossen prâgen.

(Ur-riversitât Primorska in Ko;rer) zum Prâsidenten der IGHA bekannt geben
zu kônnen (er ist bereits seit 2014 Mitgliecl des Komitees). Wir wùnschen ihm

have a common objective. Both reflect on the role played by naturalists, but also
by different actors (not only the academically trained), in the pfocess of explor-
ing mountains and tnountarin natufe, and of building up knowledge (inclucling
practical knowledge) on the use of these resources from a global and long-term
perspective.2
