Die Vorstellung, dass Gleiches sich gerne zu Gleichem geselle, ist so alt wie das menschliche Nachdenken uber Beziehungen selbst und pragt auch die hofische Literatur des Mittelalters, in der insbesondere die Gleichheit des sozialen Status sowie ausserer und innerer Idealitat beziehungskonstituierend wirkt. Im 13. Jahrhundert entstehen dann allerdings einige Romane, die dieses Prinzip problematisieren und Weshalb ist Ahnlichkeit eine Bedingung fur ideale Beziehungen? Welche Merkmalsgleichheiten sind relevant, welche nicht? Und was geschieht mit denen, die bestimmten Ahnlichkeitsnormen nicht entsprechen? Die vorliegende Studie untersucht erstmals systematisch die narrativen Inszenierungen von Ahnlichkeit in vier spathofischen Romanen, in denen dieses elementare Beziehungsprinzip der Gleichheit ins Zentrum des Erzahlens ruckt und sowohl die Handlungsstruktur als auch die Figurenkonstellation massgeblich bestimmt. Auf einen kulturhistorischen Uberblick uber die Grundlagen mittelalterlichen Ahnlichkeitswissens folgen vergleichende Detailanalysen von Konrad Flecks ‘Flore und Blanscheflur’, Rudolfs von Ems ‘Barlaam und Josaphat’, Konrads von Wurzburg ‘Engelhard’ und Ulrichs von Etzenbach ‘Wilhalm von Wenden’.
