SPECIAL WEAPONS AND TACTICS

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team is a
group of specially trained, sworn deputies who are
utilized in incidents where disciplined team work,
specialized weapons and tactical skills are required to
deal with and resolve law enforcement incidents that are
high risk in nature. The S.W.A.T. Team is used in a
variety of situations, to include, but not limited to,
Barricaded Suspects; Hostage Situations; High Risk
Search and Arrest Warrants and the arrest of Armed
and Dangerous suspects.

New Members are required to complete initial
qualification requirements consisting of both physical
fitness and weapons qualifications. They are then
interviewed by PCSO Command Personnel. Once
assigned to the team they are instructed in basic S.W.A.T.
concepts and integrated into the existing team. All
members are required to requalify semi-annually on both
the physical fitness and firearms qualifications.

The S.W.A.T. Team consists of a Team Commander and
a Team Leader. The Team Commander acts as liaison
between Critical Incident Command Personnel and the
Team Leader. He is responsible for the entire team. The
Team Leader acts as liaison between the Team
Commander and the Team, and is responsible for
command and control within the inner perimeter. He is

also responsible for coordination of team deployment,
operational status and capabilities. A Team Sergeant is
responsible for all training and equipment requirements,
to include range fire and weapons qualifications.

The Team consists of a dedicated Entry Team,
Precision Marksman, Gas Deployment Personnel and
Breaching Personnel. Members are cross-trained in all
areas to ensure total team capability. The Team also
works in conjunction with Sheriff's Office personnel who
are assigned to the Hostage Negotiations Unit.
